On Wednesday 03 July Cast hosted a Speak Up Celebration Event. Speak Up is a secondary school programme developed by the National Theatre for young people whose voices are not always heard.
Over the past academic year, the young people in our five partner schools (De Warenne Academy, Don Valley Academy, Hall Cross Academy, Mcauley Catholic High School, and Doncaster School for the Deaf) have been developing their confidence, creativity, connection, voice, and agency in workshops run by professional artists from across the region.
Collaborating with these creatives, the students created some thought-provoking and beautiful works of art. They then had the opportunity to share their work with the city!
The afternoon at Cast included performances by the students in our Main Space, an interactive exhibition in our Nook Bar, with over 100 young people sharing their work. It was an inspiring afternoon, and we’re proud to be part of the NT’s Speak Up programme, providing the space and opportunity for young people to have their important voices heard.
