FREE CARER TICKETS AT CAST. NO QUESTIONS ASKED. NO PIP PROOF. Cast, Doncaster’s flagship theatre has today announced that Carer Tickets will now be free to anyone in need, without the requirement of proof. The free Carer Tickets, which have been available since the theatre’s opening in 2013, are for to customers who need the support of a carer during their visit to the theatre. Until now, as is the practice at many theatres and arenas, Cast requested that customers supply proof of their disability with a letter of entitlement for Personal Independence Payment. In a move towards greater equality, as of today, anyone attending Cast theatre in need of care during their visit will be entitled to a free Carer Ticket, no questions asked, and without the need to prove entitlement. Head of Marketing and Communications, Sian Dudley comments: ‘We want to deliver a gold standard of accessibility in the arts. For us that means treating people with dignity and giving an equal opportunity of access to the arts. We want you to have an enjoyable and welcoming experience at Cast and it’s quite degrading to be asked to ‘prove’ your disability. Not every disability is visible, and in many cases, not recognised with any form of paperwork. With this new initiative we hope that more local people living their lives with dementia, poor mental health, autism, chronic pain – you name it - can come to Cast to experience world class arts in their home town with support.’ The theatre, which presents the UK’s only fully BSL integrated pantomime, champions accessibility with a range of activities including Relaxed Performances and a Changing Place. Cast aims to push the boundaries for accessibility in the modern age and is currently fundraising to launch their new Live Steaming project ‘Safe Space’ which will broadcast their on stage performances live into an informal space within the theatre for families with additional needs, giving them the choice of where they watch the show. Carer tickets are available from Cast’s Box Office or by calling 01302 303 959.
