Helping more people feel welcome at the theatre, for the first time and beyond!

At Cast, we believe arts and culture should be for everyone. But for many people, going to the theatre can feel difficult or even impossible. Things like the cost of living, anxiety, or just not knowing what to expect can make it hard, especially after the pandemic.

That’s why we started our Community Ambassadors programme.

Our Community Ambassador are people from the local community who has been involved with Cast before. Now, they help others take their first step into the world of theatre. Using their own experiences, they guide and support people who might never have thought theatre was “for them.”

Ambassadors lead group visits to Cast. They show people around, explain what to expect, and join them in seeing a show. Their friendly support helps new audiences feel welcome, safe, and included.

Right now, we have three amazing ambassadors; Mike, Ondy, and Ruth. Together, they’ve led 14 group visits and welcomed 357 people to Cast. Many of these visitors had never been to the theatre before. Some are refugees, people seeking asylum, or families who have moved to the UK. Others are looking for friendship, support, or simply something new to enjoy.

Thanks to our ambassadors, these people got the chance to relax, connect with others, and experience the magic of live theatre, many for the first time.

“Everyone who came to see the performance told me how much they enjoyed it. Including one of our members said that she was 60 years old and never seen a live performance.”
