Speak Up Celebration Event 2024

Speak Up Celebration Event 2024

Main Space

Wed 03 July

You are invited to the Speak Up Celebration Event at Cast – to hear, see and feel what the young people of Doncaster have to say!

Speak Up is a secondary school programme with a difference. Young people, teachers and artists are equal partners, and work collaboratively with local arts organisations and the National Theatre to create artworks and creative work that respond to issues that are important to them.

Developed for young people whose voices are not always heard, bespoke activity is co-created with each school and its students.

During the second year of the programme the young people in our five partner schools have been developing their confidence, creativity, connection, voice, agency resulting in a sharing their work with the city.  The art they have created has been elevated from last year, and we are so proud of the work they are doing! Working in collaboration with artists from the region they have created some thought-provoking and beautiful works of art.

The Celebration Event will include performances in our Main Space and exhibitions in our Front of House areas. These pieces have been created by young people from our five partner schools - Don Valley Academy, The McAuley Catholic High School, De Warenne Academy, Hall Cross Academy and Doncaster School For The Deaf.

Each of them are very different and it is going to be a brilliant afternoon with 6 groups and approximately 103 young people sharing their work as part of the Celebration Event.

The performance in the main space will start at 1pm, but our exhibitions will be open beforehand - please keep an eye on the website to stay up to date about when the exhibitions will be open to the public.
