Jobs Freelance Artist Community Curator: 250 Years of Theatre in Doncaster Exhibition
Job Description
Cast is seeking an experienced and imaginative Freelance Artist Community Curator to create a touring exhibition celebrating 250 years of theatre and performance in Doncaster.
The exhibition will explore the rich cultural heritage of theatre in Doncaster, from the opening of the town's first theatre in 1776 through to the present day. Drawing upon archival research, oral histories and community stories, the exhibition will celebrate the people, places, performances and organisations that have shaped Doncaster's theatrical landscape over the past two and a half centuries.
The exhibition will be presented at Cast to coincide with Doncaster People's Theatre's production of Waiting in the Wings and must be designed so that it can subsequently tour to other venues and community locations.
A short film capturing oral histories from local theatre companies, performers, musicians, dance schools and community groups will also form part of the exhibition (this is currently in development).
Brief
We are looking for an artist-curator who can creatively interpret historical research and community stories into an engaging, accessible and visually compelling exhibition.
The successful applicant will work closely with Cast and project partners to identify key themes, stories and materials that reflect Doncaster's theatre heritage.
It is anticipated that the artist will work over 3 weeks to be agreed with Cast over the Summer period (these do not have to be consecutive and can be flexible).
