Creative Careers
Each year, Cast offers two exciting weeks of work experience for around 15 young people aged 14 and over.
Week One – How a theatre works (age 14+) (Usually Spring)
This week gives you a taste of everything that goes into running a theatre. You’ll get:
- A full backstage tour
- Hands-on experience in areas like Technical, Front of House, Marketing, Box Office, Ushering, Fundraising, Participation, Admin, and Catering
It’s the perfect chance to see how each part of the building works together to create amazing theatre.
Week Two – Developing your craft (age 16+) (Usually Summer)
This is a performance-focused week for young people aged 16+.
You’ll spend the week:
- Rehearsing and creating your own piece of theatre
- Pitching ideas
- Performing at the end of the week
It’s ideal for those looking to build their skills and experience using professional resources and industry-standard practices.

I loved every aspect of it and it was really cool to see what roles make a theatre from the behind-the-scenes lighting and sound to the roles of management and the marketing teams.
Alex absolutely loved the experience and has been telling me all about the possibility of him returning to some classes there in the future. He already had a keen passion for theatre and Cast has really helped cement that. He felt very responsible being allowed to help people, and very professional being able to rehearse lines with seasoned professionals.

We're sorry - we can't take on single students for their work experience due to schools' varying work experience weeks and our small team. Please chat with your careers adviser to see if they will allow your work experience to take place during our scheduled weeks.
We are working in partnership to develop and deliver SEND-specific work experience with our specialist colleges in Doncaster - please get in touch with Annabel who is leading and we can discuss.
We are really grateful to the Theatre Development Trust and Moving on Up Fund (supported by Quickline) for supporting our work experience schemes.
