Students of Doncaster gain valuable experience working in the different departments of a theatre!

During the February 2024 half-term, Cast offered eighteen 14 –16-year-olds in Doncaster the opportunity to experience a week of all aspects of theatre!

The young people took a tour of the theatre, allowing them a glimpse into the backstage world of tech as well as front of house. They spent time in our office working with various teams such as marketing and communications, fundraising, admin, and participation. During this time, they were given the opportunity to complete tasks relating to these areas and get a feel for where their individual interests and skillsets lie.

In addition to this, the students were given shifts on box office, catering, and ushering to ensure they experienced the wide range of front of house roles available in a theatre. The week was designed to help them develop an understanding of how the building runs, operates, and thrives!

The week was a huge success, with positive feedback from students.

I really enjoyed cast work experience! It was an amazing time, and I enjoyed every minute of it, I really liked how we got to experience so many job roles in theatre. I made so many friends which will last forever, and it was an unforgettable experience.”

Alex thoroughly enjoyed his time with your lovely team and gained new skills and new friends. I have never known Alex willingly do a 12-hour shift before, which is testament to how engaged he was in the whole experience, which is a credit to you and your organisation. The following week at school Alex was even giving the teachers advice on rigging the lights for the school performance!

Her favourite bit was ushering, because she enjoyed being front of house and liaising with the general public. Also, meeting Giovanni was a huge bonus! She really enjoyed meeting all the people on the course, she found them all friendly and welcoming, that includes fellow colleagues and staff too.

Every year Cast offer a week’s work experience for students aged 14-16 in the winter, and a week in the summer for young people aged 16+ who are serious and passionate about a performance related career. Keep an eye on our social media for the announcement of next years applications!
