YOUR CHANCE TO PERFORM IN A NATIONAL THEATRE & CAST PRODUCTION!

Open Call

National Theatre’s & Cast's Public Acts Production

The Caucasian Chalk Circle

Saturday 2nd May 1pm to 3pm

This Summer Cast is to launch their most ambitious community performance to date - a new musical version of Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle written for Doncaster by Chris Bush, with a community cast of 100 people!

You can find out a bit more about Public Acts by watching the videos below.

Cast has been developing the show with their community partner groups from around Doncaster since September 2019 and we would now like to invite local performers with an interest in singing, acting or dancing to be part of the show too.

If you would like the opportunity to work with professional actors, directors, choreographers, voice coaches, costume & set designers, musicians  and perform on Cast’s main stage in a National Theatre Public Acts production this is your chance! No experience is necessary, we are looking for open and enthusiastic people.

Anyone who is interested should come along to the open call recruitment workshop at Cast Theatre, Saturday 2nd May 1pm to 3pm.

The workshop will be led by the show’s director, assistant director and choreographer. It will be a fun, informal session including the chance to play some character parts, sing together and have a dance. If you’re interested in coming along but don’t feel comfortable being put on the spot, please don’t worry. Nobody will be singled out who doesn’t want to be!

Everyone over the age of 16 is welcome – and we mean everyone! We want the stage to reflect all the good folk from Donny! We are also looking for families to perform together. If you have younger children who are over the age of 5 and would like to take part together as a family, we would love you to come along.

Travel expenses will be covered, refreshments provided and on longer rehearsal days we will provide meals for anyone in the community company.

You don’t need to have performance experience to take part. The only thing we need from you, is a commitment to attend the following dates:

  • Rehearsals on Tuesday and Thursday (6pm to 9pm) and Saturdays (10am to 4pm) from the 7 July to 22nd August.
  • A week of technical rehearsals from the 24th to 28th August (keep all day and evening free)
  • The performances 29th to 31st August (keep all day and evening free)

Please note, we can be flexible to a degree for anyone who might need to miss 1-3 sessions so bring any clash dates along to the workshop with you so you can talk through with someone from the team.

Once you register you’ll be sent some key dates and next steps. We look forward to meeting you!
